Discussing your idea

The Scottish Forestry Trust welcomes enquiries from prospective applicants at any stage. Discussing your idea with us early on can help identify potential issues and clarify your approach before you invest time in preparing a full application.

Submitting a Concept Note

We use a Concept Note system to help you outline your project idea and receive initial feedback. Concept Notes can be submitted for any of the funding categories offered by the Trust.

Complete the Concept Note enquiry form and email it to the Director.

What happens next?

Depending on the scale and nature of your project, we will either:

Aim to provide feedback on your Concept Note within 5–10 working days; or

Refer the Concept Note to the next meeting of the Projects and Research Committee (PRC), after which feedback will be provided.

Taking your application forward

Once you have decided to proceed and submitted a full application to the Director, you cannot make further amendments or seek informal feedback. The only exception to this is where the Trust's Projects and Research Committee requests clarification during its assessment.

The Scottish Forestry Trust SCIO is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (Scottish Charity No. SC053147). The Scottish Forestry Trust was established in 1983 by a gift of share capital, and our role is to provide funds by way of grants, to support research, education and training throughout the UK.  Since our establishment, we have provided nearly £2.7m to fund over 190 projects ranging from supporting post graduate industry applied research, social and environmental forestry, policy formulation and broader public education and awareness.
