Discussing your Project Idea
The Trust is keen to hear from potential applicants at any time to discuss your potential project. This should help you to identify and address any obvious issues at an early stage and prior to the submission of a full application for assistance to either the Joint Bursary Scheme or the Trust's General Funding Awards.
To assist the early contact process, we have introduced a Concept Note system which will help you set out your project ideas in outline. The Concept Note enquiry form is available here and once completed, should be submitted to the director(at)scottishforestrytrust.org.uk
We will attempt to respond with comments on submitted concept notes within 5-10 working days.
The SFT/FC Joint Bursary Award Scheme
The Scottish Forestry Trust has partnered with the Forestry Commission and has set up a joint Bursary Award Scheme which will benefit Ph.D and Masters research carried out in the UK to the benefit of UK forestry.
The scheme is subject to the SFT's general applicant guidance as well as specific scheme guidance and applicants should refer to both guidance notes when preparing their submissions. The main application form for the Bursary Award Scheme is available here.
The Scheme is open to applications for studentships which commence from April 2011 and which are due to conclude by March 2018 at the latest.
All applications made to the Trust for Ph.D and Masters studentships will be considered through the Bursary Award Scheme.
Applications for SFT General Funding Awards
Applications are also welcome for projects which fall outside the scope of the Bursary Award Scheme and which can demonstrate a benefit to the wider UK forestry sector.
To assist applicants in preparing the best possible case to the Trust, we have prepared a short guidance note which indicates the criteria that Trustees are looking for in completed applications. The guidance note is available here.
If you have already discussed your project concept and are ready to submit an application for assistance to the Scottish Forestry Trust, the application form to use is available here.
Application Deadlines
Completed application forms should be submitted electronically to the director(at)scottishforestrytrust.org.uk
The application deadline for the next round of both SFT General Funding Awards and Bursary Award Scheme funding will be Friday, 24th February 2012 and decisions will be notified during April 2012.
Subsequent application dates will be notified on this page in due course.
